WTF?

Every one deserves a second chance in life it it appears that the NFL has provided one to Michael “dog fighting” Vick. The former Atlanta Falcon QB has signed with the Philadelphia Eagles for a reported two year contract, the first year of the deal is only for a reported $1.6 million. Most people wish they are provided such second chances.

A long with that contract comes the distraction and most likely backlash and protests from PETA for Vick’s past involvement with dog fighting and cruelty to animal. However, more so than that comes the acceptance of the Philly fans, who as everyone knows are tough to win over. Let’s hope for Vick’s sake he does a better job than Santa Claus. Then there are the away games where in every city there will be protests and fans in the stands holding up Milk Bone dog biscuit boxes with Vick’s likeness on it. However, the real issue is how will most fans look at Vick and his actions after he has served prison time for dog fighting?

What a joke!!!!! M Vick should not be in the NFL-which now stands for the National Felons League. it is a privilege that he abused. This is a disgrace and a slap in the face of everyone of us pet owners who care. Shame on you Eagles organization-you should put your money to good use and cut Vick. I am stunned that the city of brotherly love doesn't boo Vick. Philly..... its time to do the right thing and tell the eagles that you don't want that kind of scum representing what used to be a good quality organization.

Michael Vick is still scum, a felon and has no place in the NFL and the Eagles are a disgrace to humanity. Their blood money is not enough.

Months after facing criticism for signing convicted dog fighting Michael Vick, the Philadelphia Eagles are making good on a pledge to support animal welfare groups. (like that is going to make it ALL good).

The team on Monday unveiled a program called TAWK, which stands for Treating Animals With Kindness. The initiative aims to reduce animal abuse, encourage spaying and neutering and end dog-fighting through public education and awareness.

The Eagles awarded grants of $50,000 each to Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society, the Humane Society of Berks County and the Humane Society of the United States.

Team spokeswoman Pamela Browner-Crawley says Vick is working with children to discourage them from dogfighting. (Like that is going to happen).

Exit Question: Will Philadelphia change it’s name to the Beagles to make Vick feel more comfortable and at home?

I have been doing dog-rescue with my wife for more than 10 years and unfortunately I live in an area where there are lots of people who still think that dog fighting is OK. Pugs are being used as bait because of there high pain tolerance, Bull Mastiffs are used for fighting because they have a high prey drive. Bulldogs are also used as bait. We get a call from the sheriff when they go in and arrest these people. We end up picking up the dogs. Most of them are euthanized as they cannot be saved.

Now with the recession dog fighting is on the increase as people think it is easy money. Not long ago we were involved in a raid where there was a large pit with all kinds of dead ripped to shreds dogs. People are using whatever dogs they can find. Snatching them out of backyards. Remember, for a dog to rip another one to shreds takes a lot of practice, so lots of bait, meaning lots of innocent dogs.

I will not make anybody loose there lunch by posting some of the pictures I have on my PC. When the sheriff and the police go in, you just look at there faces and it looks like all of them are about to puke. It is gross.

I have both pugs and mastiffs as pets, so when we go on a raid it is really close to my heart.

I suggest we take the felon, put him in a ring with to high prey drive dogs and see how fast the felon gets ripped apart. That should generate some money and we may be able to balance the budget. (As you can read from all this, I am mad as hell).


So it PISSES me OFF that a reputable sports organization hires a past dog-fighter. It is all about the money. What's next? "Here is "Bubba Jones", he is pedophile and a rapist, but he is one of the best, so let's give him a contract for $2 million. It is boycotting time for me, anything National Felons League is not getting my support. I know, I am only "one" in this.

This is not just an image on TV. This is reality. I rescue dogs from SCUM like M. Vick. But I do agree, there are worse things done behind closed doors and one day they will get caught.

Now - what Vick did was wrong on all fronts. He does deseves a second chance - just like everyone else. Now - I'm sure you're going to say, ".... but on a public stage?"

If Michael Vick was nothing more than a street corner thug who did nothing in his life? He would have received a harsher penalty and would NEVER get another opportunity. The reason why I know of this to be is simple: A friend of mine dated a woman whose daughter has a boyfriend who served time (accessory to a robbery). He's out of jail, now - but no one will take a chance on him because of the stamp of 'felon.' He's a good kid who did a stupid thing. Now - he's forever paying the price for it.

If Vick couldn't throw a ball downfiled 60 yards and run the 40-yard-dash in 4.4 seconds - people wouldn't give a shit about his ass! But because his #7 Eagles jersey was the #1 seller in the NFL until Favre decided to play for the Vikings? Goddell decided, "Alright. We'll give you another chance." Now, I'm not a fan of many of these NFL players because I believe many of them are stuck on stupid. However, I'm praying that these guys understand that their era of entitlement is over. That no one is above the law - even if you do draw a paycheck of seven figures a year.

Not like that. That is a fairy tale. I agree dogs fight, but then ANY animal will fight another animal for food if it means survival. You would too and probably me too. My dogs assert dominance but not by ripping the intestine out of the other dog.

Furthermore, there are only a few dogs that have a high prey drive. People that do dog fighting get dogs with high prey drive and increase that drive by starving them and letting them lose on a smaller dogs that is smeared with blood. The bait is also tied up, so they can't escape. Once they are ready to fight, they starve them a little, and make sure that when approached they attack.

No one is perfect, so yes- if someone went around kicking babies for a living, was truly sorry for it, did their time, got counseling to CHANGE- then yep, I would give them a second chance. I never said he wasn't clean, getting help is a process, something that needs to be worked on daily. That doesn't mean that I would put them in the position to do it again. IE- keeping predators away from kids etc. He probably isn't even allowed to own another dog let alone be near one. So true. I don't give a rats ass about sports either, especially watching overpaid morons doing what a twelve year old can do. Maybe one or 2. Like the Volvo round the world race - which is sailing. Combination of good weather, brains and quick thinking. Also been following the Tour de France since age 8.

Entertaining - that is the word. Watch a game and when it is over, do something else. Just like a movie. Getting all over-excited about some team losing a game, go binge drinking and smash a couple of cars on your way home, then it's time to get a reality check.

Vick was convicted of bankrolling an illegal operation and transporting the illegal equipment (dogs), which were used in the legal operation across state lines.

And yes they did catch these scumbags, but the cardinal bevilaqua (sp) along with other people came out an spoke on these guys' behalves and the district attorney, lyyn abraham, whom I hate with a passion, didn't want to prosecute because of some technicality bullshit!
